Match the room around the part: how much of it, and how long it hangs on.
Drag the fader, or drag up and down on the pot. Arrow keys move one step; hold Shift while dragging for small moves.
These comparisons are practice. Your first attempt keeps its score.
Five songs a level. An average of 80 passes.
Hear the room around the part.
Rebuild the reference’s reverb with a send fader and a decay pot: how much room there is, and how long it hangs on. Both versions always have reverb on them.
How it works
- Play the reference, then switch to Yours.
- Turn the control, compare again, and check when they sound the same.
- After a miss, open Help me hear it: your attempt, the difference doubled, and the correction.
What to listen for
Listen in the gaps between notes. The send is how much room surrounds the part; the decay is how long the tail hangs on after it. Compare the same phrase each time.
How it’s scored
Your first check scores out of 100: dead on is 100, and the level’s allowance is 80. An average of 80 over five songs passes. You can keep adjusting after a check to hear the correction; it doesn’t change the score.
Levels
Level 1 is the send on its own (within 8 dB), level 2 the decay (within 3 steps), level 3 the send again (3.5 dB), level 4 the decay again (2 steps), and level 5 both (2 dB and 2 steps). The decay pot has 11 steps from 0.5 to 2.8 seconds, each about a fifth longer than the last. At 0 dB of send the room is as loud as the part.
Use stereo headphones, with mono audio and spatial audio switched off. Every setting plays at the same loudness, so the level never gives it away.
