Drag a part on the stage, or drag up and down on its pot. Arrow keys move the focused pot one step.
These comparisons are practice. Your first attempt keeps its score.
Five songs a level. An average of 80 passes.
Hear where the band sits.
Two or three parts of a song have been panned across the stereo field. Everything starts in the centre, as a mix does: drag each part left or right until the band sits like the reference. The bass and the lead vocal stay in the centre underneath.
How it works
- Play the reference, then switch to Yours.
- Move the parts, compare again, and check when the layouts match.
- After a miss, open Help me hear it: your attempt, every difference doubled, and the correction.
What to listen for
Take one part at a time. Follow it in the reference, picture where it sits between your ears, then find it in yours. The one furthest out usually jumps out first.
How it’s scored
Your first check scores out of 100. Each part is scored on the difference in level between your ears, as in Place the Sound, and the part furthest from its place decides the score. An average of 80 over five songs passes.
Levels
Level 1 is two parts on opposite sides (within 8 dB), level 2 two parts anywhere (7 dB), level 3 three parts (6 dB), level 4 three parts (4.5 dB), and level 5 three parts placed close together (3.5 dB).
Use stereo headphones, with mono audio and spatial audio switched off. Every layout plays at the same loudness.
