The exercise runs at [https://mixchops.com/comp/amount](https://mixchops.com/comp/amount) in any modern browser, with headphones or decent speakers.

## Hear how hard *the compressor is working.*

Gain reduction is how far the compressor is actually turning the signal down. Both versions go through the same compressor at the same loudness; one is pushed further. It starts with 1 dB against 12 and ends with 3 against 6.

### How it works

1. Press Start and flip between A and B (key B).
2. Listen to how even each one is, and whether it starts to breathe.
3. Pick the one working harder (keys 1 and 2).

### How it’s scored

Eight questions a level. Get six right to pass and unlock the next.

### Levels

Six levels: Beginner (1 dB against 12), Intermediate (2 against 8) and Advanced (3 against 6). Each tier starts on the drums, where compression is easiest to hear; vocals come in at Advanced. Levels 1 and 2 are free. Levels 3 and up are part of [Mix Chops Pro](https://mixchops.com/pro), and every level is open while Mix Chops is in early access.
