## Hold the balance *in your head.*

A good engineer carries a reference around: how loud the vocal sits against the drums, how much room the bass takes. Here you hear a song as it was mixed, a set number of times through, then it goes and the faders get knocked off. Put them back from memory. Every version plays at the same loudness, so only the balance counts.

### How it works

1. Press Play and listen to the reference. The meter shows how many plays are left; “I’ve got it” moves on early.
2. When it goes, some faders are knocked off. Drag them until Your Mix sounds like what you heard.
3. Check. Bypass comes back, so you can hear how close you got.

### How it’s scored

The same as Restore the Balance: how close your mix comes back to the original, from 100 for the exact balance (at any overall level) to 0 for no better than leaving it. Soloing a part costs 4 points, once a part. Muting is free, even while you learn the reference: pull a part out and bring it back to hear how much space it fills. Pass with a 60 average over five challenges.

### Levels

Five levels: one part after three plays of the reference, one part after two, two parts, three parts, then every fader after a single play. Levels 1 and 2 never move the bass, which barely plays on laptop speakers. It’s part of [Mix Chops Pro](https://mixchops.com/pro), every level.
